National Blood Bank to Launch 3 Month Campaign
The National Blood Bank Service will launch awareness and blood collection campaign which will last three months on Sunday.
World Blood Donor Day 2018 is being marked in Ethiopia for the 15th time under the theme: "Be there for someone else. Give blood. Share life."
Briefing journalists today, Donors Service Director at the National Blood Bank Dr. Temesgen Abeje said voluntary blood donors would be thanked and public awareness on regular blood donation given during the campaign.
The bank that planned to collect 241,000 units of blood from volunteers this Ethiopian year has managed to succeed in getting about 180,000 units, he added.
The National Blood Bank Service will organize a music concert where blood is donated as entrance fee.
Every year, on 14 June, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day. According to WHO, the event serves to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood, and to raise awareness of the need for regular blood donations.
