Minister Says Ready to Learn from Israel to Transform Agriculture

Ethiopia is ready to benefit from the close bilateral and friendly collaboration with Israel to transform its agricultural sector, Agriculture and Natural Resources Minister Eyasu Abrha said.

Opening a day-long workshop held today, the Minister said knowing and appreciating the lead role of Israel in transforming world agriculture, Ethiopia is ready to benefit from the developed agricultural experience of Israel.

"We recognize the hard work and inventions of Israeli scientists in developing appropriate and new technologies which are instrumental in transforming agriculture", Eyasu pointed out.

Modernizing agricultural sector and wise use of water, plant germplasm and soil resources to feed the rapidly growing population and export are the major challenges Ethiopia has been facing alongside drought and post-harvest loss.

Israeli Ambassador to Ethiopia, Raphel Marav said MASHAV is one of the biggest partners of Ethiopia that benefits in a large variety of activities, mainly in the fields of agriculture, education, and health.

"This is done both through in-country projects and training in Israel. It is our understanding that cooperation is the key for sustainable development and achieving a better future", the ambassador added

Recent advances and technologies developed by Israeli companies and experts, including computer controlled drip irrigation, computerized early-warning systems for leaks, thermal imaging for crop water stress detection and biological pest control, are mentioned among the proofs how Israel is very important nation in the global arena.
