About 800mln birr raised for GERD in half year
Close to 800 million birr was raised for the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) in the first half of this Ethiopian fiscal year, according National Council for the Coordination of Public Participation on the Construction of GERD.
Citizens are supporting the construction of the dam that has become a symbol of national consensus in many ways.
Media and Communication Director of the office, Hailu Abraham said the plan is to collect 1.4 billion birr this Ethiopian fiscal year.
He said more than half of the planned amount of money came from bond sale and other means of raising fund during the past six months.
According to Hailu, various public events, including the celebration to the seventh year of the laying of the foundation of the dam, will be carried out to collect the remaining amount of money.
